GIRTS MUIZNIEKS  “Sun Bunnies”

„Every morning I drink coffee in the room of the apartment, where I paint. And every morning on the wall, where I sometimes leave my paintings, two rays of sunlight – two sun bunnies – appear.

When I was twenty, one painter, whose art was incomprehensibly alien for me at that time, told me the words that I remember, looking at my illusory sun bunnies. The essence is quite simple and I totally agree with it – painting is like catching the sun bunnies. And - in fact - the artistic comprehension, understanding and analysis are an absolute mirage. Girts Muiznieks (1956) has graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia (1982). During this time, he vividly entered the art scene, together with the young artists of his generation completely changing the traditional Latvian art scene.
Since 1992, Girts Muiznieks has organized 15 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 50 group show in Latvia and abroad.
Girts Muiznieks has been nominated for the Purvitis Award for his solo exhibition “Hair” (2009, Galerija 21), his works in the contemporary art exhibition at the Cesis Art Festival (2007) and his solo exhibition “Salut!” (2007, Latvian National Museum of Art).
Girts Muiznieks works are in public collections in Latvian National Museum of Art (Riga, Latvia), Art Museum of the Artists' Union of Latvia (Riga, Latvia), Georgian Museum of Art (Tbilisi, Georgia), European Central Bank (Frankfurt, Germany), State Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Russia), Russian Ministry of Culture (Moscow, Russia).
