The international art fair of contemporary and modern art, PAPER POSITIONS Berlin 2024, took place in Berlin from 25th April to 28th April, 2024, with a unique focus on drawings and works on paper, collages, art books, illustrations and sculptures. In addition to works by contemporary artists, exhibited were also works by contemporary art classics and old masters.
Maksla XO presents new works by Paulis Liepa, and for the first time, will be represented paper works by Latvian graphic artist Juris Petraskevics and charcoal drawings by French artist Michel Castaignet.

Juris Patraškevics’ creative process resembles composing music without a predefined structure, creating abstract lines and narratives. The small-format works on silk paper undergo a delicate and even timeless metamorphosis - skillfully blending the materiality of paper with graphite, pigments, pastel, acrylic, and wax, transforming them into fragile sculptural, three-dimensional surfaces.
Paulis Liepa, using the most basic graphic techniques – collography, cardboard cut, silkscreen, reflects on a wide range of philosophical questions and current events - starting from recent war collision points to simple commonplace items and topics: street, internet, news, advertising and artificial intelligence characters.
Michel Castaignet’s charcoal drawings from his latest series, “Deafening Din”,explore why individuals find deep slumber amidst noisy and tumultuous environments. He portrays scenes from parties and gatherings where individuals seem isolated yet connected to their surroundings.These artworks prompt reflection on solitude, social connection, and finding inner calm amidst the turmoil, offering a poetic view of our turbulent times.
