From November 15 to 17, the Maksla XO Gallery participated in The Manchester Contemporary, one of the largest contemporary art fairs in Northern England. Celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, the fair was held in the historic Manchester Central building, originally opened in 1880 as a railway station.
The primary aim of The Manchester Contemporary is to promote art collecting in Manchester, a city with a rich 200-year history of art collection. The public collection, part of this legacy, is showcased at the Manchester Art Gallery. To support this mission, the fair collaborates with The Manchester Contemporary Art Fund, the largest philanthropic art fund in Northern England. During the fair, the fund acquires works for the museum’s public collection, which are later exhibited in Manchester’s galleries and museums.
The North of England is one of the UK’s most dynamic and promising art markets. The fair plays a vital role in inspiring and cultivating a new generation of art collectors. Each year, The Manchester Contemporary attracts over 160 galleries from Manchester, the UK, and Europe, representing more than 600 artists. Over the three-day event, it welcomes over 12,000 visitors.
